Measure your ceiling first
Measure from the floor to the ceiling where the tree will stand. In Australia, the National Construction Code sets a minimum ceiling height of 2.4 m for living areas and bedrooms, so most homes are at least that. Older homes often have higher ceilings: measure yours rather than guess.
Allow for the stand and the star
Your tree will stand taller than the tree itself. The stand lifts it off the floor, and a star or angel adds more on top. As a rule of thumb, leave 20 to 30 cm between the tip of the tree and the ceiling for both. Our trees are measured from the base of the trunk to the tip.
Which size suits your room
| Tree | Height | Best for | Price |
|---|---|---|---|
| 5 ft tree | about 1.5 m | Apartments, townhouses, smaller rooms and lower ceilings. | $130 |
| 6 ft tree | about 1.8 m | Most living rooms: it fits under a standard 2.4 m ceiling with room for a star. | $170 |
| 7 ft tree | about 2.1 m | High ceilings of 2.7 m or more. Under a 2.4 m ceiling it's a squeeze once the stand and star are on. | $200 |
Every tree is real and grown, so each one has its own shape and spread.
Check the floor space too
Think about width as well as height. The tree needs room to spread its branches without blocking a doorway or walkway, and it should stand well away from heaters, curtains and furnishings. If it's getting lights, a spot near a power point saves running leads across the floor. See our safety guide and care guide for where a tree is happiest.
Getting it home
A bigger tree needs a bigger car, so check yours before pickup day. Our Scouts will help load your tree into your car when you collect it.
